Bangalore is known as the “Silicon Valley of India” or the “Garden City” because of the presence of IT companies in and around the city. The name of the city has been recently changed to “Bengaluru” which is an Anglicised version of Kannada Language. Lush green lawns, manicured gardens and beautiful flowers adorn the city. It is also a cultural hub of music and dance. Vidhana Soudha, near Cubbon Park is known for its Neo-Dravidian legislative building. Bangalore exhibits the former Royal heritage of the 19th century by preserving Bangalore Palace (which is made using an example of England’s Windsor Castle) & Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace of the 18th century designed with teak structure.
Rent a car in Bangalore with Avis India to take a tour around these magnificent Palaces, IT Park, Bannerghatta National Park, Infosys, UB City, Shiva Statue, Lal Bagh and many more places. Bangalore is one of the major economic centers in India, contributing around (US$ 7.8 Billion) with a value of city’s export of approximately US$6.4 Billion in 2004-2005.
Forbes magazine has considered the city to be “one of the fastest growing cities” with a per capita income of more than one thousand billion dollars around the year 2007. It is home to National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) among other valuable headquarters.
For quick weekend getaways from Bangalore, one can explore Bandipur National Park (under 5 hours by road – 230 kms) and take a safari tour. The best part of visiting this park is that visitors can rent a car in Bangalore and head onto Venugopala Swamy Temple at Himavad Gopala Swamy Betta which is located towards the north-west of Bandipur National Park. The Park has a large pasture for grazing cattle. It holds over 150,000 cattle. Bull Elephants, Indian Elephants, Tigers, Dholes, Sambar, Chital, Gaur, Peacock, Amazing butterflies like – Red Pierrot etc adorn the Park. A highway (NH67) connects the city travelers to this wild life sanctuary.
Bandipur is also home to around 200 species of birds like peafowls, honey buzzards, Indian vultures, red-headed vultures, hoopoes (with a crown of feathers), flowerpeckers, brown fish owls, Indian rollers, changeable hawk-eagles, crested serpent eagles, kingfishers, bee-eaters etc. One can’t help but say “wow” to this exquisite natural place rich with different types of animals, birds, flora & fauna; two rivers namely – Kabini in the north and Moyar river flowing in the south with Nilgiri Hills around Moyar Gorge that adds a wonder spark to the overall setting of the Park. This Park is just 80 kms away from Mysore. So whether you are a Bangalorean or not, Bangalore and Bandipur National Park can provide lots of reasons to take a break from work and breathe in the freshness of nature.
