“It is a Royal feeling,” this is what the visitors and travels say after they call on Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur. This fort is also known by the name – ‘Fort of Victory’. Located on ‘Cheel ka Teela’ (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravalli range, the fort stands representing the royalty, might, and supremacy of the then ruler, Jai Singh. The fort was built by Jai Sigh II in the year 1726 and was named after him. The prime motto to build Jaigarh Fort was to protect Amber Fort and the palace complex.
The fort holds immense historical significance that preserves that history until now almost completely intact. It is built with thick walls of red sandstone that spreads over a layout plan. There is beautiful garden inside the fort. This is one of the few forts, which is a symbol of a complete military township with a marvelous palace, a hug granary, a tall tower, several temples, a cannon foundry, and giant mounted cannon-the Jai Ban (Jaivan). This is the largest cannon on wheels in the world. There is also a museum located to the left of the Awami Gate. It contains an exhibit of photographs of the Royalty of the then Jaipur, many artefacts, stamps, a hand drawn plan of the palaces, in addition to many other things of interest.
Located just 15 kilometers away from main Jaipur town, the fort opens at 9:00 AM in the morning in until 4:30 PM in the evening. You will enjoy the steep ride up to the main gate of the fort, the Dungar Darwaza.
